November was a month of finally getting my hands on the super popular novel by Norwegian author Jo Nesbo, The Snowman. As normally I am always reading in Russian, reading the book in English was surprizingly a challange for me.
For those who haven't yet heard about The Snowman, this is a thriller story about a detective who is coming into a case of the first serial killer in Norwegian history. The book is filled with dark symbols, metaphors and allegories that are very easy to digest even by an unexperienced reader (such as yours truly), which leads to a bitter aftertaste after every time you set the book aside.
The main character, Harry, is a greatly created hero. From the very begining, you are able to feel h struggles he is having in his life, and the complex layers of his personality. Despite this fact, I didn't really loved Harry as a person. He definitely fits perfetly as a center of the action of the plot, but I didn't feel like I woud want to meet him in real life.
All ther characters are also written super well, as well as all of the scenes. For some reason, I found side-scenes much for value adding to overall environment of the book, such as the one with mold removal in the very begining of the book.
The suspence is real in this novel, and will definitely will bring you some chills, however due to the fact English is not my native language, I wasn't fully involved to the book, and didn't feel the dive in.
Hence, I would totally recommend it, and soon I am finishing next creation of the same author - The Devil Star. Let's see how it goes!
