During few last months I was asking myself: which direction lolita fashion is going to? Not being an expert in it at all, I however was noticing some worrying signs such as Angelic Pretty releases not being sold out in seconds, lack of blood baths during the first days of new items dropping to the market... However our beloved AP proved us wrong and introduced the new series called Khronos Utopia.
The series contains of the OP, the JSK, the canotier and the OTK socks.
First comes the OP
One piece presented in the Khronos Utopia series resembles a lot of the famous Misty Sky OP: higher waist, longer skirt, gentle poof of the sleeves, however it does have the differences also.
First of all, despite being a baggier chiffon made, the bodice clearly has the recesses that will help the dress to sit nicely on the torso. It does not provide the shirring, but detachable waist ties should help to sit the dress to the figure.
Sailor style collar made of see-through chiffon of off-white color suits well the theme of the dress. The hems of the collar are neatly finished with a shiny gold tream. I would say that the trim might have been a little less shiny as it reminded me a bit of the ones Bodyline used to use, however I must admit that the color of it highlights the golds in the print very well. Detachable front bow adds a nice touch and balances the top to bottom. Personally I like the fact that the ribbon used for the bow is more satin rather than grossgrain, in my opinion it adds a nice feminine touch to the dress.
I like that the sleeves are tidely finished with a simplier cuffs without any lace or ruffles. It definitely indicates that the brand wants to ake sure that the dress is more wearable and is easier in post-wear care.
The skirt has just enough poof, and the best part is that the hem is finished with the lace that is matching the color of the dress! It was bothering me a lot in most of AP releases that they were using just a simple white lace for most of the dresses. Here, usage of the colored lace not only enhances the look of the dress, but also justifies the price more in my opinion. The lace used here is a custom AP lace with AP logo and stars on it which ties in with the stars imprinted on the fabric.
Next we have the JSK
The JSK is simply gorgeous in my view! The bodice is well-fitted despite being a chiffon one, and I really like the sweet heart neckline which allows to wear the dress out of lolita to some fancy events. The front panel of the dress is decorated with the same golden trim and features nice and big star buttons which is a cute touch! They remind me a lot of the Lief Cafe dress, especially in Black colorway (a.k.a. makes me want the JSK so much solidly due to presence of the buttons).
There are two bows on the bdice, the top one being removable. I really like the sparkles that can be clearly seen on the close ups of the bows, they do go with the theme of the dress nicely.
Skirt is again quite poofy, and being done with a lighter material should hold a great volume of petticoat.
The print itself is spectacular. The very popular cloudy sky theme mixed with time and space: what could be better! The way they incorporated gold with the Time Circles and clock gears is very smart. With certain colorways of the series it could be even coordinated with beiges, which makes the items quite versatile.
The color chosen for the print are also great. While black and navy are quite exptected in the sky-themed garmets, grey and emerald are very fresh in Angelic Pretty's style, and they look spectacular! Emerald colorway definitely is bringing some Slytherin vibes.
Overall, i think this series is definitely a huge success as can b easily proven by simply glancing on japanese website with sales starting less than 12 hours ago and the main pieces already being sold out. My peronal choices would be JSK in black and OP in gray, however, must admit, this release is very well though and every colorway could definitely find a fan. The only concern of mine is that AP is starting to remove the skirts from their releases: oh why AP!
Thank you for reading <3 br="">3>
